Kahe'e was a war chief who was known for his loyalty, discipline, and fearlessness in battle. He was small in stature, but he had a strong personality and was highly protective of King Kaumuali'i. It seems that he was well-respected and valued by the king and other members of the royal court.Kahe'e was 14 when Kamehameha tried to invade Kaua'i in 1796, A young warrior in the within the resistance although the attack was unsuccessful. He was 22 when Kamehameha tried again in 1804, but an epidemic decimated his army and he was forced to retreat. Kahe'e continued to serve as a war chief for King Kaumuali'i until Kaua'i became a vassal of the Kingdom of Hawai'i in 1810. He is remembered as a brave and dedicated warrior who played an important role in the history of Kaua'i and the Hawaiian Islands.
